Tragedy can be as subtle as a knock on the door. Do you succumb to its grip, or do you fight for survival? Two boys that have nothing in common are brought together by tragedy and circumstance. Demarcus is an African American middle school boy. He attends an inner city public school, and money is scarce. His countless hours at the park have earned him respect from the neighborhood and skills that are unmatchable. Adan is a middle class Caucasian middle school boy from a private school. He has learned basketball from expensive travel teams and camps. Money helped Adan develop an incredible shooter's touch. A sudden tragedy forces their paths to cross unexpectedly. Demarcus blames Adan for the change in his life, and he wants Adan to pay. A love of basketball forces both boys to find a way to work together. Their families, a school, and a community are desperately pulling for them to coexist. Coach Monroe has one shot to pull it off. He will walk a delicate line to reach out to Demarcus in his time of need without pushing him over the edge. Can coach bring together Demarcus's ability to drive to the basket and Adan's shooting touch to bring home a championship? Will coach be able to reach a grieving child before it's too late? Scott Andrew Myers is the author of DeMarcus's Change of Heart. He is a middle school teacher in Northeast Indiana. Scott first started working with children when he volunteered to "help" his daughter's six year old soccer team. This landed him the head coaching position with no assistants. He loved it! Being an electrician with a bad back and a glutton for punishment, he switched careers and earned a teaching degree. His work with children and love of writing made him a natural for the young adult genre.
